Overview

Gardens by the Bay is a huge, colorful, futuristic park in the bay area of Singapore. The famous Supertree structures offer an impressive skywalk over the gardens, over-sized seashell-shaped greenhouses recreate chilly mountain climates and there are hundreds of trees and plants to discover, making this destination great fun for both kids and adults. Gardens by the Bay is a park spanning 101 hectares of reclaimed land in central Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. The park consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden, and Bay Central Garden. The largest of the three gardens is Bay South Garden, standing at 54 hectares. Gardens by the Bay is an integral part of a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" to a "City in a Garden". The stated aim is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city.

A visually-arresting site that features towering steel Supertrees that stretch up to 50 meters into the sky, giving you a panoramic view of the gardens and the city’s bustling urban hub, while two domed conservatories house over 200,000 plants. Comprising three waterfront gardens spread across 101 hectares at Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay is designed to be Singapore’s national gardens in the heart of the city. The first phase of its development focused on Bay South Garden (54 hectares). Bay South Garden will shape the distinctive qualities of Singapore’s Downtown and is the first-of-its-kind tropical garden that brings together botany, horticulture, architecture, landscape design, and engineering. It is uniquely Singapore in that it reflects our natural and cultural histories through plants.

Gardens by the Bay comprises three distinctive waterfront gardens – Bay South, Bay East, and Bay Central.

Bay South

Bay South Garden eventually completed and opened to the public on 29 June 2012. It is the largest of the three gardens at 54 hectares (130 acres) and aims to showcase the best of tropical horticulture and garden artistry. The overall concept of its master plan draws inspiration from an orchid as it is representative of the tropics and of Singapore, being the country’s national flower, the Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’. The orchid takes root at the waterfront (conservatories), while the leaves (landforms), shoots (paths, roads, and linkways) and secondary roots (water, energy and communication lines) then form an integrated network with blooms (theme gardens and supertrees) at key intersections. The focal point for the Gardens by the Bay South Garden is the Conservatory Complex and is one of the most awe-inspiring aspects of Gardens by the Bay, one of the newest Singapore attractions. This award-winning horticultural attraction houses over 500,000 plants. The two cooled conservatories - Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, feature rare and unique plants from around the world.

Bay East

Gardens by the Bay East, also known as Bay East Garden, is a well-kept  sited at the end of Tanjong Rhu Road, The Gardens aim to capture the essence of Singapore as the premier tropical Garden City with the perfect environment in which to live, work and play, re-engineering Singapore into a leading global city of the 21st century. It will complement and complete the necklace of attractions that have been planned for around the Marina Bay. At 101 hectares, Gardens by the Bay comprises three distinctive waterfront gardens. Bay East is a 32ha linear garden that embroiders a stretch of the Marina Channel promenade, providing landscaped access to a strategic portion of Singapore’s waterfront. Encapsulating a water theme, the Gardens will have water gardens with terraces that cascade down to the Bay’s edge – giving visitors an intimate relationship with its shorelines and wonder views back to the skyline. Another key theme is food gardens and water sports. A diverse range of dining options will be available among food theme gardens, while water sports facilities and spectator stands will enable the Gardens to host aquatic sports and waterfront recreation such as canoeing, non-motorised sports such as sculling and dragon boat races.

Gardens by the Bay East Opened in October 2011, the low-key Bay East Garden actually opened 8 months earlier than its more famous and glamorous sibling Gardens by the Bay South, or Bay South Garden, which opened to much fanfare in June 2012. Although the under-patronized Bay East Garden is frequented largely by nearby residents, there are still many in the area who are unaware of the waterfront gardens with the gorgeous views literally at their doorstep.

Bay Central

Bay Central is the garden which will serve as a link between Bay South to Bay East when developed, with a 3km waterfront promenade boasting stunning views of the city.
