Description
Hebbe falls is one of nature's most enchanting waterfalls amongst the 35 waterfalls of Karnataka, Hebbe falls located 8 kilometers from Kemmannagundi where water rushes in two stages. from a height of 250 feet and is called Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and another which rushes from 200 feet high is called Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls). One can take 8 km trek to reach the Hebbe falls. While the Dodda Hebbe is the bigger one, the Chikka Hebbe fall is the smaller one. A dip in the clean, and herbal enriched water can be refreshing. The cascade of water is surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations. The majestic falls are located inside a coffee estate and can be reached either by a walk or via a four-wheeler (4X4 jeep). The falls are exactly 10 km away from the Karnataka Horticulture Department guest house, which is often used as a major landmark for starting the trail. The other option is to take the local transport from Balavara to reach the trail.
Apart from witnessing the beauty of the falls, another advantage of the road trip is enjoying the scenic beauty of the private coffee estates. While trekking, it's easy to get lost as the trail gets unidentified at several spots. It's advisable to follow the electric wiring fence to reach the endpoint. The hiking route covers a lush mossy pond and three enchanting streams which give anyone enough reasons to pick the trekking option to reach the Hebbe Falls. The light brown mud with dews settled on it makes the perfect trail for trekkers. the best time to visit Hebbe falls is early winter when you can take advantage of the various flora and fauna nearby Hebbe Falls.
Tips
- Allocate atleast 3 hours of your plan for this. The Jeep ride takes 1 hour up and down together and driver gives around 1.30 hrs to be there. Make sure you have enough food and water supplies if you require. There is no shop around that place.
- Do not miss a refreshing dip in this herb-infused water.
- The white frothy water cascades down with gusto but even though it looks tempting to go stand under it, it is not recommended.
- Don't forget to carry: Food/water, Inner wears/swimwears, Safety bag to keep your belongings, First aid kit.
- During monsoon, the trail gets clouded with less to zero visibility because of the fog and heavy rains. So, it's advisable not to go on trekking during monsoon season.
- The road from Jungle to Falls is owned by the forest department and hence you will have to travel by their transport.
- The road trip is another ideal option to reach Hebbe Falls. Jeep is the best option to ride over the rugged and rock-ribbed road.
- Take a pair of clothes if you wish to get into the water. Mostly you will be tempted to get in after seeing the falls.
- This place comes under tiger reserve and hence can't go with your own vehicle. The only mode of transport to Hebbe falls is a jeep. Have to park your vehicle at the starting point. From there we have to go in a jeep which they organize.
- the jeep ride which will charge you INR 400 per person and will take 8 people except for the driver or INR 3200/- per jeep. The amount is fixed bargaining will not work.
- The drive up to falls via jeep is bumpy and takes 30 mins at least. Once you reach the destination by jeep, again 10 min walk among nature and you see the majestic view of the falls.
- The falls are slightly cut off and isolated. It is likely that no medical help can reach soon. It is recommended to remain at its fringes.
- The stream water was extremely cold and the moment you put the feet in water you will have pain. If you are sensitive be sure to wear some thick shoes while crossing them.
