Carmelagiri Elephant Park located about 5 km. from Munnar. Elephant safari is offered at Carmelagiri Elephant Park through the forest destinations of Munnar. The safari takes you through the lush forests and beautiful valleys that offer a thrilling experience to the traveler. It is a unique experience and you must try it as it loves both by children and adults. As far as horse riding is concerned, horses are available for hire around Mattupetty dam and other places and Munnar makes for an excellent opportunity for the activity. At Carmelagiri, you can experience elephant rides through the lovely woods and get to know these majestic beings. The private park which is open all through the year offers you a different experience of riding an elephant. Elephant Safari costs around INR 400 per person for short safaris of 15 minutes. while horse riding costs around INR 300 per head.

The park gives trippers various riding times which ranges from 15 minutes through to 1 hour and even a full day safari. A half day or an hour-long trek educates tourists on how the majestic long-trunked elephants obeys the commands of the mahouts, hauling heavy logs from forests, acoustic communication between other elephant companions with pitches below the range of human hearing, enjoy elephant bathe, provide caress, feed and interact with them.

Know Before you go

The ride on the huge elephants is thrilling. Kids will definitely love the ride.
You can also hire photographers who will take photographs of the ride at an additional cost of INR 250. They offer a CD of 25 photos.
You can also feed the elephants at an additional cost of INR 50 per basket of fruits.
A maximum of three persons can travel at a time on an elephant and there are around eight elephants in total.
