Description
India’s first Butterfly Park is located in Bannerghatta biological park and is one of the more interesting places to visit in Bangalore. It occupies 7.5 acres and houses a butterfly conservatory, a museum, and an audiovisual room. The butterfly conservatory, a circular enclosure with a polycarbonate roof, is 10,000 sq ft Within the conservatory, the environment has been designed to support over twenty species of butterfly. The Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) with Department of Biotechnology (DoBT), Government of India, has jointly initiated the project during the year 2003 under a special master plan. The construction work initiated in 2003 was completed during 2007 and opened to the public for visitation. It is a unique project in the entire country and is serving as a role model in the nation, and most of the Zoos and parks interested to establish Butterfly Park are using this as a knowledge hub and plan to replicate.
Butterfly park has a lovely tropical setting with a host of plants and shrubs to attract Monarch Butterflies & other Butterflies. Children and the young at heart will love the surreal settings which include an artificial waterfall as well, making the Butterfly Park one of the most enjoyable places to visit in Bangalore. The museum and Audiovisual show on butterflies take you on a captivating journey back in time to trace the origin of butterflies and how the fate of man and butterflies are interlinked. The inhabitants of Butterfly Park make it one of the more enchanting places to visit in Bangalore. Start your trip at the Butterfly Conservatory, a 10000 sq feet circular enclosure with a polycarbonate roof. More than 20 species of Butterflies can be found here.
