Description
Vagator beach is one of the most scenics of the beaches of North Goa. This beautiful beach is located about 22 Kms from Panaji and is situated in Bardez taluka. This is part of a 30 km stretch of beach coastline along the west coast of Goa by the Arabian sea that begins at Fort Aguada continues as Sinquerim beach, then as Candolim beach and merges into Calangute beach and then to Baga beach and then Anjuna beach and then to Vagator beach finally ending at Chapora beach and Fort. The Chapora fort is a 500-year-old Portuguese fort. To get to this fort one has to travel by foot. The fort is located on a hill and the hike to get to this fort is quite steep. The view from the fort is absolutely breathtaking and it worth every bit of the trouble taken to get here. Below is a picture of the Vagator Beach.
Reaching Vagator Beach
Vagator beach is located at a distance of 8 km. from the city of Mapusa and 22 km. from Panaji. Buses to the beach are available from the Mapusa bus to stand every 30 minutes. Private transport such as cabs, auto rickshaws is also available from Mapusa. If one feels like it, you can walk to Vagator from Anjuna by road which is near Vagator beach. To reach the beach one must climb down a flight of stairs leading down the side of the cliffs.
The nearest railway station is at Thivim which is about 30 minutes away by car. If traveling by bus from thivim, tourists need to come to Mapusa first and then travel to Vagator. Many tourists prefer to rent bikes upon arrival to the coastal areas as it is convenient to visit many places at a stretch with bikes at your own convenience.
