Lalbagh Flower Show on Republic Day January 2024 Embrace Nature's Beauty with Basavana Vachana Literature Celebration

Things to Know

Get ready to kick off the New Year with a burst of colors and positive vibes at the Lalbagh Flower Show 2024! Happening from January 18 to 28 at the Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru, this annual extravaganza is all set to dazzle your senses. The theme for this year is nothing short of spectacular: "Teachings and Literature of Saint Basavanna and Vachana Literature."

Meet Basavanna: The Rockstar Philosopher!

Step into the world of Basavanna, the 12th-century rockstar philosopher, poet, and social reformer. He's the cool cat behind the Lingayat community, breaking down barriers by rejecting caste systems, rituals, and idolatry. Basavanna not only founded the Lingayat sect but also set up the Anubhava Mantapa – a happening spiritual assembly where everyone, from different backgrounds and genders, could drop knowledge bombs on religion, society, and ethics. His thoughts? Well, they're neatly packed into hundreds of vachanas, these super cool short poems that spill his spiritual wisdom.

Vachana Literature: Where Poetry Meets the Heart

Get ready to groove with Vachana Literature, a form of Kannada literature born out of the Lingayat movement. It's poetry that speaks from the heart, with simplicity, directness, and a personal touch. Dive into themes like devotion, equality, morality, social justice, and self-realization. The lineup? A dream team of poets including Akka Mahadevi, Allama Prabhu, Channabasavanna, Devara Dasimayya, and Siddharama.

Lalbagh Flower Show 2024: Where Blooms Steal the Show!

A jaw-dropping floral statue of Basavanna takes center stage, surrounded by the coolest gang of vachana writers and their poetic masterpieces. The Glass House transforms into a mini Anubhava Mantapa, echoing with live recitals of vachanas by uber-talented artists. And that's not all – vertical gardens, bonsai, cacti, orchids, roses – you name it, they've got it! Plus, stalls selling seeds, saplings, gardening tools, and organic goodies.

Open every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the entry fee is a steal at Rs. 70 on weekdays, Rs. 80 on weekends, and just Rs. 30 for the little ones under 12. If you're a student rocking a school uniform and an ID card,
