Glass Cottages in Manali

Is Staying in Sethan Better Than Staying in Manali My Experience Exploring Both?

Most people visiting Manali automatically book hotels near Mall Road or Old Manali. I used to do the same until my recent trip when I spent a couple of nights in Sethan, a small village located about 12–13 km from Manali on the Hamta Pass route.

The difference was surprising.

While Manali offers easy access to cafés, shopping, and local attractions, Sethan feels completely different. The village sits at a higher altitude and offers panoramic Himalayan views, quieter surroundings, and a much stronger connection with nature. During sunrise and sunset, the mountain scenery alone makes the detour worthwhile.

One thing I noticed is that experiential stays are becoming increasingly popular in this area. Instead of conventional hotel rooms, travelers are choosing glass cottages, glamping domes, and mountain-view retreats that make the accommodation part of the overall experience.

During my search, I came across Nirvana Hamta Retreat, located near Sethan Igloo Village on the Hamta Pass road. The property offers glass-view cottages, luxury glamping domes, and jacuzzi stays with mountain views. According to the information available on their website, the retreat is around 12 km from Manali and is designed for travelers looking for a more immersive Himalayan experience.

What I liked most about the Sethan area:

Best Offbeat Stay In Manali

Less crowded than central Manali

Amazing mountain and valley views

Access to Hamta Pass and nearby trekking routes

Great opportunities for stargazing

Unique stay options compared to standard hotels

Better suited for couples, families, and nature lovers looking for peace and quiet

A few travelers on Reddit have also shared positive experiences about staying in Sethan and specifically mentioned enjoying glamping experiences in the area.

Of course, Sethan may not be ideal for everyone. If your priority is nightlife, shopping, or walking to restaurants, staying in Manali town might still be the better choice. But if you're looking for mountain views, peaceful surroundings, and a unique stay experience, Sethan is definitely worth considering.

Has anyone else stayed in Sethan instead of Manali? I'd love to hear your recommendations and experiences.
