Mattupetty located about 13 kilometers away from Munnar in Idukki District of the southern state of Kerala. Mattupetty nestled in the enchanting hill station Munnar in the state Kerala is a small mount town also called as “the cattle village”. It is one among the Must visit Tourist Destination in South Indian Green Paradise of your Munnar tour. The castle village is popularly known among the tourists as well as worldwide for its Indo Swiss Farm. Situated at a height of 1700 m, Mattupetty is known for its highly specialized dairy farm-the Indo Swiss Livestock Project. The Indo Swiss Project in Kerala was first established in the year 1963 under a mutual accord between the India Government and the Swiss Confederation. The main objective of the Indo Swiss Farm was to developing the new breed of cattle custom made to the local environment. Later for the betterment and strengthening the organization the farm project was rehabilitated under the India Government and finally named Indo Swiss Project. During the mid-1970s, the Kerala state government strong-willed to make up an independent organization under Act 1956 called as Kerala KLD and MMB (Kerala Livestock Department), (Milk Marketing Board). The objectives of the KLD and MMB were to provide needed requirements for cattle breeding with the state policy, to offer training courses in animal husbandry, to promote food production under field condition in support of milk production, to produce good quality of cattle for breeding and high calories and many more.
